DENMARK

A recent survey found that people of Denmark are the happiest people in the world. In Copenhagen, people are friendly, helpful, welcoming, and even encouraging as they tell you that they think the rain will stop in the afternoon, and the sun will shine again. The city is charming and full of large squares that look like they’re made more for people rather than vehicles. Tables are sprinkled throughout the plazas, as are small stalls serving primarily Danish beer enjoyed by hundreds, tourists and locals alike, on a sunny day. All the streets have bike lanes, and you feel that they facilitate most of the movement around the city. Hordes of Danes ride the bikes dressed casually in shorts and sneakers, professionally in suits and dress shoes, or even formally in dresses and high heels. The clubs are pumping live music, and the restaurants are full through the late hours with people enjoying the summer’s heat and extended hours of daylight. Everything is “green” in this country, including the city’s Environmental Agency Building covered by flowers planted along the metal grid of the facade. (Billund, Legoland)
